Noticias, May 2009The Control Board of the Navarra Designation of Origin, together with the CECRV, Spanish Conference of Wine Region Control Boards (an organization that brings together all the wine designations of origin in Spain), promoted the launching of a “Manifesto for the defence of European rosé wine” and the Asociación Bodegas de Navarra has backed the initiative.
A new European regulation is soon to be approved that will authorize blending wines to make rosé, which will result in a loss of identity for a product that is not only the legacy of a centuries-old tradition but that has also always identified Navarre as a region of top quality wines.
The goal of the Manifesto is to raise awareness in society about the seriousness of this aspect and to solicit its support to be able to request from Spanish and European authorities that this measure not be approved. To this effect, on 26 May, a press conference will be held in Brussels, where quality wines regions from Spain, France, Italy and Portugal will be present.
In order to reinforce the scope of this initiative, they would like to count on the support of all institutions, town councils and organizations in Navarre that are concerned about this problem. The names of all supporting entities and persons will be included in the list of supporters accompanying the Manifesto; this list will be available on the websites of the DO Navarra and the CECRV, and circulated to the media.
