The history of wine in Navarre has always run parallel to the history of Olite, a town located in the Ribera Alta. Nine centuries have gone by since Teobaldo I, Count of Champagne, planted the first vines after discovering the richness of its soils and its favourable climate. He marked a path which grape growers have followed to this day. When Carlos III The Noble One established his court in Olite, he reinforced the town’s winemaking culture, multiplying the number of plantations which would eventually supply his whole kingdom.Bodegas Vega del Castillo was founded in 1999, the result of the merger of Bodega Cooperativa Olitense (Olite), Unión de Cooperativas Virgen de Ujué (Ujué) and Cooperativa Vinícola Nuestra Señora de Ujué (Pitillas).
