Bodegas Irache is located in Ayegui, at the foot of the historic Montejurra, only two kilometres from the old Roman town of Estella. The firm was founded in 1891 but its vineyards already supplied wine to the royal houses of Navarre in the 12th century. The history of the winery runs parallel to that of the adjacent monastery, which became the first hospital for pilgrims on the Way to Compostela.
In 1991, Bodegas Irache new facilities were inaugurated. These include a great ageing hall, which can hold 10,000 oak casks. Many have termed the bodega the CATHEDRAL OF NAVARRA WINE.
In line with the traditional hospitality of Benedictine monks, the bodega has a Wine Fountain, which provides free wine for pilgrims on their way to Santiago.
The bodega’s vineyards include the PRADO DE IRACHE estate. The grapes of this vineyard are used to make the Prado Irache wine, a single-estate, limited-production wine marketed in numbered bottles. The wine is made with grapes painstakingly selected and shows unmistakable ties with its terroir. The Prado Irache is only marketed from those vintages that achieve the desired quality.
The bodega also has an organic project which produced a red wine, FUENTE CERRADA.
